Product Description
Recommended for cavity filling in infected wounds. The design and structural integrity of the dressing allow you to cut the dressing to fit any size, shape and depth of wound.
Patented dressing containing a silver complex with a broad antimicrobial profile
Biatain® Alginate Ag provides a continuous antibacterial effect throughout the entire period of use (up to 7 days).
High dressing integrity
High dressing integrity enables removal in one piece with minimal pain and trauma.
Minimized risk of leakage and maceration
Biatain® Alginate Ag absorption and gel formation locks exudate within the gel, preventing leakage that could cause maceration of the periwound skin.
Documented hemostatic effect
Unlike hydrofiber dressings, Biatain® Alginate Ag has a documented hemostatic effect, i.e. the ability to stop blood flow in minor bleeding.
Mechanism of action
On contact with wound exudate, Biatain® Alginate Ag transforms into a soft, cohesive gel that conforms closely to the wound bed for infection control. The silver complex releases ions in the presence of wound exudate.
Product composition
Biatain® Alginate Ag is an alginate dressing composed of alginate, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and an ionic silver complex.
Use
Biatain® Alginate Ag may be used on moderate to heavily exuding partial to full thickness wounds. Biatain® Alginate Ag may be used on wounds at risk of infection or infected wounds. Biatain® Alginate Ag may be used under compression bandages. Biatain® Alginate Ag should not be used on dry or lightly exuding wounds or to control heavy bleeding. Biatain® Alginate Ag is indicated for leg ulcers, pressure sores, diabetic foot ulcers, donor sites, traumatic wounds and second degree burns.
